As we enter week 6 of the 12 week season, the team is looking strong. We held our own at two separate events over the past weekend. Due to the way things played out, we had to divide and conquer meaning smaller numbers of athletes competed against full teams and we still placed at IYTT.
That being said, we still have room for improvement. First, someone set the weather straight( ps kudos to the Indianola squads, they definitely had eyes on targets - some of those targets went 30ft straight up) Next we need to practice how to minimize lost targets from multiplying. We need to work on sustaining focus, stamina and pre shot routine. Take advantage of 1 on1 and Ill try drills at the end of practice on monday. Bring a little extra ammo.
Results from this weekend:
Dino Meet - Lauren Filmer 1st Place IE Women's Singles. 3rd Place IE Handicap
IYTT- Singles 3rd place Team, Griffen Vierling 3rd Place Single
Alex Pocernich 2nd Place
Nick Kelchen 3rd Place
We have a couple of important schedule announcements. First, the decision has been made to move the home meet from Saturday 5/9 to Friday night at regular practice 5-8. This is so we can send athletes to Cedar Falls for the Leather Meet. This has been one of the most popular meets we attend and popped up after we set the home meet. Our home meet also doubles as our main fundraiser. Typically we use these funds for rounds, vests, shirts and operations. Once the basics are covered, additional funds will be used to cover national fees and this year offset the singles fees for state.
Applications for state went out yesterday, Ill open a ticket in May to collect fees.
I also opened the nationals ticket today. We need to register by May 12 for this event. We wont know the exact order of events until we confirm registration but we typically try to make this a Monday-Sunday event.
Tickets Closing Tuesday
Cedar Falls 100 target meet.
Tickets Opening
Pick up a sponsor sheet for Cash For Clays. There are no fees, but you must have a minimum of 5 sponsors to participate. Prizes for top scores, highest earner, and Annie Oakly.
Regionals is Open. This is prom weekend, so I'm working with the school to take sporting clays athletes on Friday May 1st, then we start early on Saturday morning to be done early. However, these are 100 target events, so timing will not work for everyone. Only take tickets for what you can realistically participate in.
Nationals Ticket is open - interest only. Determination on fees will be based on Cash for Clays. I've been asked why does the team sponsor Nationals. First it's pretty cool to think that our team has a history of pacing against the best in the nation. But it's expensive, families who attend absorb ammo, lodging and food. So helping with fees for competition is one thing we can do to help out.
Skeet and 5 stand will continue at 530 on thursdays. Ill keep adjusting the ticket times until it works. Last year Skow preferred to keep track of all fees and rounds, then tracked down individuals, collected checks and then deposited the funds. I dont have that time. We have to report number of rounds and break down the fees separately for DNR. Im using the app for this tracking mechanism. I am keeping a paper tally but this is just for verification.
Keep watching the app for changes and updates, and Ill see you Monday.
