9/7/25 News and Notes.
Saturday was a great day of shooting at Highland Hideaway. Griffen, Nick and a few others had the opportunity to shoot 200 sporting clays while squadded with William Penn, Coe, and Wartburg athletes.
We have a short season this fall, which will go quickly. Keep an eye on the calendar, Hawk Chat and News and Notes for upcoming events. I meet with the coaching team after practice to put a preliminary plan together for fall meets. Our focus for this season will be singles, Skeet and Sporting clays.
Please go to: https://www.iowadnr.gov/media/5990/download?inline for 2026 DNR has imposed multiple changes to league scoring and rules. Please take a moment to look them up. Briefly changes include: who/how we score each other in a match, league is now 300 targets with the best 6 scores from at least 3 locations and more. The championship guide for 2026 is not available yet, but there will changes there as well.
Im still trying to nail down a practice facility for skeet/sporties, DNR has not responded as yet.
Reminder our first practice is tomorrow night. New athletes bring firearms cased to house one. No ammo on your person or on the line, until instructed by a coach. There are no free rounds this fall so bring your round cards.
Tickets Closing this week:
We do have one ticket open for a meet at Ankeny Ikes next Sunday. It is an ATA meet 100 targets. It is only open for singles and doubles. You need to have shot with the program In the spring to qualify to sign up.
Last thing. Larry Brandmeyer has started shooting school aimed at further developing skills for coaches and athletes. If your interested in learning more, he has posted two open house dates. More information can be found at: https://fb.me/e/5qMVCUyX7 These are completely voluntary.
