6/19/25
State Sporting Clays is behind us with a solid performance by our athletes. We went head to head with some of the best teams in the state, including two who routinely practice on top shelf sporting clays courses and we did very well. Unfortunately, unlike state trap, the events only award to 3 places. The team is in 4th place by 2 clays. Jake Madsen, Nick Kelchen and Max Tyler led the teams scores.
Next up will be our last state competition of the season. 6/21/25 will be the state skeet shoot at New Pioneer in Waukee. The event starts at 8 am and we are second flight, be onsite by 8am ready to shoot. There is at least 1 house short squadded so will likely run fast. We shoot 75 targets in the morning and 75 in the afternoon. The weather forecast is for temps in the 90’s, high humidity and no clouds. We will need to keep athlete’s hydrated and cool. Hopefully we will have awards at the end. I would like to ask all those participating to get a good night sleep, drink plenty of water, and to maintain focus. We are capable of winning this thing.
Practices will continue Mondays 6/16 and 6/23 on Monday night only. There will be no free rounds for these. SWAT is still in effect.
Thursday 6/19 will be our last skeet practice at Butch Olafson.
Thursday is also our HY Vee steak night. We really need volunteer staff to work this event. Its low on responsibility to the team and great in benefits. These funds go into our operations account and are used for team expenses – which does include the swat pins, hawk squad vests, and other items. Please sign up here:

Id like to understand each travel plan and anticipated arrival date, get a contact list and have a round table for questions. There are two things currently open, the Briley choke pre order where you get buy one get one, and the sportsman’s ammo order form. I do recommend getting on ssf email list if you haven’t already:

At any given contest we have multiple athletes capable of being the top shot. Its exciting to watch. Lets finish strong.
