Happy Mothers Day to all the trap moms, thanks for all you do to make your athletes successful. Yesterday was Black Oak Clays meet, it was a summerlike day which was good prep work for state tourn. Our group did very well and it looks like we will have at least team placements in both skeet and sporties and that’s against teams that routinely practice at this facility.

Raffle results. Its looking like the team will net around $5,000 in proceeds. While being a good number, its well below budget projections based on previous years. The tickets have been submitted to Ducks Unlimited and winners will be contacted by that organization. This may affect the teams ability to pay for national fees as we have in the past. Im meeting with the foundation members this week to push the numbers. In the mean time, if your interested in nationals – I need you to take a ticket asap.

I want to give out a special shout out to Brandemeyer Shooting Acadamy. They sponsored the 10 top annie oakly shooters with a $50 each sponsorship to the team. Please tell Larry thank you and visit: https://brandmeyersa.com/

This morning I and Coach Skow got onto shot to hold our slots for sporting clays. We were able to secure the needed openings, but there is a complication on SCTP side. Once that gets hammered out, we will know more.

State squads should be coming out shortly. We were able to secure all the necessary slots. The system opens for a coach review period before becoming final, expect a squad sheet at that point. We do have a singles squad on Friday, the rest will shoot on Saturday Friday squad has already been contacted.

Our final meets of the year are a moving target at this point. All of them are going to be heavily attended by other teams and the sponsors are making accommodations to accept the numbers, so our team will need to be very flexible. Ill put a little more in the details of each event below.

We will also be taking scores at our next two Friday practices, as we have listed these as duals with the Clay Crushers. This is beneficial for both teams to add to our league scores. This is common with other teams, but something I have resisted to this point, so consider this a trial. Our structure at this years practice with focus on fundamentals, drills, and one on ones has been effective which you can tell by our presence at competition. I don’t want to jeopardize that. The same thing will be attempted at the next two skeet Thursday practices. We will run rounds of 50 as a dual with Crushers. Timing will be limited so athletes must be ready to go once the previous squad is finished and there cant be any down time between stations. For those who want to shoot 5 stand while they wait they can – we are not keeping league scores for 5 stand.

Tickets Closing
Nationals -get this as soon as possible. Not only to I need solid numbers for fees, but the registration is due Tomorrow.

5/15/25 Hawks/Crusher Dual at Butch Olafson. This is on our regular practice night. We will be shooting 50 targets for league score. Interest ticket only

5/16/25 Regular practice. We have invited Crushers as a SCTP Scored meet. Practice will look mostly the same except we will give a house to the Crushers for scores. 100 target event.

5/17/25 Army Leather Shoot. As of right now there are only limited openings. We should have enough singles slots, but everything after that is wonky. Event organizers have indicated they may open more spots for skeet, handicap and doubles – but that has not appeared in shot yet. Please be patient and flexible. We do expect opportunities to shoot all disciplines. Here again I need you to take tickets as soon as possible so I can get hard numbers of participants.

5/18/25 Post Army Leather shoot for league only. Again this is wonky. This event is listed on shot, but no flights are listed, Im not sure whether this is for additional targets or a continuation for the prior day. We will post as much information as we can as soon as we can. For now plan on one set of tickets. If we can shoot additional targets on the second day we can add a second ticket.

5/20/25 Waukee crusher dual. 100 targets, skeet first. Be there as promptly as possible by 530. Im not sure we can get the sporties targets even then. Fees will be collected at a later date. Interest ticket only.

5/22/25 HY VEE STEAK night This has been an important part of our fundraising efforts. It is low on need of commitment and high return. The original date was posted as 5/15 in error. I need our trap athletes to volunteer for the 4 slots to work as serving line and as many as possible to show up for dinner. I do need 4 volunteers at: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B084DABA623A6FE3-56795277-may15#/

5/22/25 Hawks/Crusher Dual at Butch Olafson. This is on our regular practice night. We will be shooting 50 targets for league score. Interest ticket only

5/23/25 Regular practice. Again we have invited Crushers as a SCTP Scored meet. Practice will look mostly the same except we will give a house to the Crushers for scores. 100 target event.

And just like that I’m at the last Trap meet of the Season:

Tickets opening;
5/24/25 Jags Superset at Stockdale. We will attempt to shoot 100 sporties, singles, doubles and Handicap. Timing will be very difficult and tight. We will likely split the team to try to accommodate everyone. This event and the event on the 25th are for league only

In our first meeting, I asked this team where do they want to go this season. Be competitive in all tournaments or be more of a social platform. To date, we have been very competitive placing high at most of the events we have attended. We have shifted our regular practice times to obtain a more competitive advantage – but – we need to keep a sharp edge. If any one wants the one on one time, let me know as soon as you get to practice. As a team we are very strong, and I feel we have achieved that by elevating every individual who has asked for help. Keep up the good work and see ya Monday.
