Todays notes has several pieces of information on tickets closing and opening as we accelerate towards the season end. Add to it Im prepping to head out to Ikes for our ATA shoot today, so I will be as succinct as possible.

First Im seeing a troubling trend of athletes forgetting round cards, ammo, or other items. A reminder, the team has agreed to provide 1 free round a week, vests, fees and shirts as well as all of our time as coaching staff. If you forget your round card and have used your free round for the week, there will only be two options load 2 rounds on a dummy card that night meaning you must have a way to pay the $12 fee or not shoot.

This leads me to the second important item, Raffle tickets are due Friday at practice. This will not be a normal practice, We will start at 6pm with season awards to date – Im pleased to say this will take a bit of time including one hawk vest presentation. We will also have the drawing for the raffle. This is our only true fund raiser for the year, no fees or mandatory attendance to competitions with high entry fees as some teams – so please work to fill your allotment of tickets. Parents, family and friends are all welcome to the event. We will end the night with 2 annie oaklies and a mom’s shoot.. 1 where you must compete with those in your class to a final, then all in one. I don’t know if we will have prizes yet – maybe just bragging rights
I will look up results for this weekends events and post results later this evening. The shark meet has unique placement results. Some show only one placing, while others show 10 placings. This is up to the event organizer.

Tickets closing this week:
5/6/25 Waukee interest ticket. This is a dual with the Clay Crushers at Waukee starting at 5:30. We will likely shoot skeet and one other event. At this time I anticipate 50 targets each event THIS CLOSES MONDAY EVE

State Sporting Clays. This is an interest ticket only at this point, The event is June 12-14 at Highland Hideaway in Riverside Iowa. We would shoot 100 targets one day, then turn around and shoot a second 100 on the next. 200 target event and fee will be $170. This and state skeet have a different registration system. They open at 8am on a certain date. Last year all the slots were taken in less than 15 minutes.

State Skeet June 18-24. 150 target event with 75 in the morning and 75 in the afternoon. Again this is an interest only at this point. Once I secure the slots, Ill turn it to a fee ticket.

5/10/25 2 events at 2 different locations. Ive chosen to split the team based on available competitions. I will reserve the right to limit these opportunities based on coaches.
Cedar Falls SR100 will be a 100 target singles only event at the state trap grounds in Cedar Falls.

5/10/25 Pella Black Oak Clays 100 Target Sporting Clays –
5/10/25 Pella Black Oak 50 Skeet. Timing will be close, but we should be able to shoot sporting clays then skeet

5/10/25 Coaches ticket – This is a no fee ticket Please take one or two selections depending on your availability for this day to cover the events.

5/20/25 Waukee interest ticket. This is a dual with the Clay Crushers that we are still developing. We will likely shoot skeet and one other event. At this time I anticipate 50 targets each event – Closes 5/19

Nationals interest Ticket. At this point I cannot promise that the team will cover costs of fees – depends on success of raffle. If you have questions, please inquire. It is a national competition and a unique experience. Ticket closes tuesday

Tickets opening

Army Leather shoot 5/17 and encore on 5/18. This event isn’t fully developed yet. We grabbed as many slots as possible, with the organizer indicating more slots will be opened. We will shoot singes and skeet on 5/17. Leather awards for singles only 5/17. This event has always been very popular. The ticket is for singles, doubles, handicap and skeet. We may have to add tickets day of as slots open. Plan on having options for both 5/17-5/18 if interested.

Tickets will not be needed but we are hosting a dual with Clay Crushers on 5/19 for singles scores. This will be a practice/competition 50 target event. 530-630 singles only, then we will switch houses to double or handicap. We will not likely be able to get scores for handicap or doubles. Sign up for singles will be at the ops table.

Lastly, I ran by the coaches and presented at orientations about team trophies. Its always been a debate on how to deal with these items, The school has only taken a few in the past and its unknown if they were ever displayed. The rest stayed with the head coach. No coach would do this just for awards. To that end, I spent a couple hours yesterday looking up results from previous competitions for the last couple of years where we placed in team or squad events. On the bottom of each trophy is listed the team members and the score that went toward that trophy. The high score for that event will take the trophy home. These will all be on display at Ikes on Cash for Clays. Please leave them until the end of the evening before taking them home.

Lastly, I will not be available for Mondays practice. Coach Binns will be in charge. As always one on ones will take precedent. Im not sure if we will have a drill on Monday night or not. Im not available and Larry is out of town. Ill share some ideas with Coach Binns and it will be his decision.
