4/6/25
Spring is warming up and things are going to start picking up quickly. Our first competition is less than a week out and it will need to be a team effort. Setting up meets begins in feb/march and can be kind of a crap shoot as your guessing on how practices go and what weather will be like. Based on what Ive seen and the weather forecast, I have the time to change the meet. So we will be shooting 100 targets for 3 disciplines. New fall/spring athletes, awards will be based on the first 50, the second 50 is optional. Sign ups close on Tuesday. This will be a small more relaxed meet so I recommend whoever can attend, shoot. As a reminder, meets are based on the time it takes to shoot a flight. Teams make an educated guess on times, but things can change very quickly. So plan on being at least 45-60 minutes early.
To sign up for meets go to the day of the meet, and click on the ticket associated with it. This is a slight change from last year, Im trying to find a way to clean up the calendar.
This meet will max. team resources. I will need athletes to stick around to fill in scoring and keeping trash cans empty. Coaches will be needed to fill houses and coordinate squads. We still have multiple openings for concessions workers and supplies needed.

Meet fees will just be your round cards.
So far its just us and the Jags, so that will simplify some.
I mentioned it in orientations, but registration for State begins already on April 14. The registrations are open for a period, but they first come first serve for slots so we need to be early. I will post tickets this week and close them to the weds after the first meet. This gives a small taste to new athletes before signing. Up, again participation is encouraged. This will be a fee ticket. $90 for singles, $50 doubles and $50 handicap. More information can be found:

This week:
New Athletes, I need to finalize orders for vests and shirts. Im going to try and have sizes of vests available for try on. Please confirm your size for vest, the team only orders 1 per career and they run around $125. Think of both hot and cold weather shooting. Talk to coach Binns about signing up for the meet.

https://mailchi.mp/sssfonline/2024-sssf-scholarships-now-open-5371741?e=4c61d88c07April 17 will be our Hy Vee Steak Night. This is the easiest fund raiser we have, but it takes people and time.
https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B084DABA623A6FE3-56142186-aprilThe rest of the team should drive as many people to Hy Vee for $10 new York strip, potato, and veggies. The team gets $2 for every meal sold
Raffle ticket sales continue. Remember to pick your tickets up. We are asking each athlete to sell 10 tickets each at a cost of $20 per ticket. Checks do need to be made out to Ankeny Hawks Shooting Foundation. We will draw for tickets at our practice on May 9th, this will be a family night with shooting games to have a little fun.
Next meets are 4/19. We will need to break the team into two locations. This is a bit unusual for us, but I cannot pass on the opportunities we have. There will be a Jags meet at Ikes 50 targets 3 disciplines and 300 target meet at Waukee for singles/Skeet/sporties. Tickets will be posted by Tuesday, athletes will have to pick one event to attend, the timing will not work to shoot both in one day..
Practice will continue as normal on Monday. At around 7 I will take a house and start drills. This is designed to hone skills and improve your success. Each week we will focus on one component of the fundamentals of trap shooting and shoot these ideas in.
We will also will start up one on one coaching opportunities. These are open to anyone and are exactly what the title implies. If your struggling with something I will make it a priority to set you up with a coach. Remember you will receive tips on things to work on, but its your responsibility to shoot it in.
