3/30/25 News and Notes
30 Mar by Chad Kelchen
3/30/31
Its time to start up news and notes again, each week Ill attempt to keep you up to date with upcoming dates and events.
Reminder 3/30/25 Jags have brought in a company to have custom molded ear plugs. This begins at 2:30 at the chapter house. Please see the flyer in the previous notes page. These are optional, but do provide a little better hearing protection than regular foamies.
First, for our new beginner class. We should have round cards for each new athlete They will be your responsibility from here out. The team will continue to supply rounds for house one until further notice. See Myself or Coach Binns for your card. I also need each new athlete fall or spring to check in with Chava at the table or myself. Ill be putting together an order for uniform shirts and shooting vests. The vests maybe an issue again due to backorders.
First meet will be April 12 at Ikes 10am-5pm. It is a 50 target event for all 3 disciplines. We will need team members all day to contribute to keeping trash empty, coaches to load houses, scorekeepers and assistance for the concession stand. Tickets will be required to sign up with Take a Ticket Tuesday Tickets will open on 4/1. New athletes, will need permission from coach Owen before signing up.
Monday night we will begin to hand out Raffle tickets. This raffle is the teams main fundraiser for the season. Each student will be give 10 tickets to sell at $20 each. The expectation is that you take responsibility to ensure each ticket and funding is sold and accounted for. There will be a flyer for the prize package, which will include a Traeger, and other prizes.
We will continue to work on honing our skills. Trap shooting is based on 5 fundamentals. In the simplest terms:
Feet – right position for good movement side to side, Mind is focused on task at hand
Mount – gun is fit and patterned, seated in the pocket and barrel is lined up with hold points,
See- soft focus is far out, Target is clear and crisp. Focus on the front ring on rights/lefts and on the back of the target on a straight away,
Move- move from the hips and knees while keeping heads on guns. Movement is smooth and direct
Shoot -Pull the trigger with intent, target is clear barrel is blurry, Continue the barrel movement for smooth follow through
With this in mind remember to bring extra ammo. Every Monday we will hold a short team meeting to identify the object of a drill based practice session. I’m shooting for 730 or so to start. We will use team rounds for these drills. I’m not seeing consistent 25s so everyone could benefit These Drills are open to the entire team.
Also, if you want one on one time with shooting instructors let Chava or I know and we will assign a coach on the first available house.
I’ve also asked you to set a goal for next week. As an example, if your goal is to shoot 25 straight, what are the little pieces you need to work on to get there. These also should algin with team goals of participation and placement at state meets.
Skeet and Sporting Clays will begin this Thursday 4/3/25 at Butch Olafson, at 5:30pm. JV/Sr athletes may be able to join, but talk to either coach Skow or myself first. We will again host focused practices, with half the squad on skeet and the other on five stand.
See you Monday.
